Upcoming Home Events At A Glance Dear Rebel Fans, It has been an exciting and rewarding year with many wonderful accomplishments by our students. Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors and to our amazing student athletes and performers. Please note that the Booster Club has a new address which is listed at the bottom of this newsletter. We hope you have a fun and safe summer! Booster Club Meeting – tonight! June 6th – Library 7:00-8:00 p.m. (changed due to graduation on June 14th) This is our last scheduled meeting of the school year. Please come to celebrate and close out another successful year! Thank you JRBC would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Ernie Dantani and E.J. Dantani and Company, for their work on JRBC’s Tax documents. Mr. Dantani spent countless hours over several weekends completing our Form 990 income tax report. He also set up our new financial accounting system on QuickBooks. This should make filing our IRS reports much easier in the future. Thank you so much Ernie! The Rebels appreciate all the work you have done for them. Rebels Sports Wrap-Up Girls Softball Congratulations to the Juanita Softball team. They are State Champions! After winning Kingco and Districts without a loss, the Lady Rebs went on to win their four games at State to take the title! After strong wins against Everett, Mt Si, and Bellevue, the girls won the championship game against Bainbridge Island, 6-1. Allison Rhodes was once again superior on the mound as she led the team to the wins behind a potent offense. Season highlights include Junior Rachel O’Neill’s 4 homeruns including a grand slam. Sophomore Katie Kent had 4 homeruns and sophomore Cami Pettingill added 2. Senior Alexa Faist led the team with a 585 batting average and was chosen to the Seattle Times All Area Team. The team finished the season with a 22-2 record with their only losses against two 4A teams which could have gone either way. The Lady Rebs will lose only one senior starter so will be strong again next season. Congratulations to the ladies, head coach Kristian Dahl, and assistant coach KC Crowder. We are so proud of you. You are awesome athletes and individuals. – Submitted by Sandi Faist Cheer Juanita cheer has a new head coach, Samantha Nieto. She joined the squad just before spring tryouts for the 2011-2012 school year, a week long process that ended with a squad of 20 being selected. Coach Neito already has the girls practicing, preparing for the year-end assembly. The squad will attend their summer camp in Ellensburg this year where they come together as a team readying themselves for their busy fall and winter schedule. – Submitted by Sandi Faist Girls Tennis Girls Tennis had a great KingCo Tournament in May – Molly Ichikawa/Anna Ludvigsen finished 5th in doubles, Devin Clawson and Kelsey Glenn played singles, and Shelby Hill/Claudia Lin competed in doubles. – Submitted by Justin Ochsner Boys Golf The Juanita High School boys' golf team had its best ever finish at the State Boys' Golf Tournament in Spokane May 23-25. The Varsity team beat Chehalis by 8 points to win the Championship. JV #2 won a thrilling game in overtime against Mercer Island to take the JV crown. JV # 1 took 3rd place. What a wonderful start to the Spring Season. – Submitted by Lynn Grager Performing Arts The end of the year is coming up, and the JHS Bands are busier than ever! The final concert on Wednesday May 25th was a great success, with every group tackling extremely difficult and entertaining music. There were many highlights, including Owen’s lovely feature on alto saxophone and Josh’s Chewbacca solo on Star Wars. On Wednesday, June 1st, the band program held their 2nd annual Spud Fish and Chips Fundraisers. Groups played from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. to entertain the crowds, and proceeds were donated to the JHS Band Program. Thanks to the Juanita Spud Fish and Chips for their support!! The Pep Band performed at the Kirkland Annexation Celebration this Friday the 3rd at Juanita Beach park. Jazz Band will be performing at Kamiakin’s Dinner Dance – a fun event that we look forward to every year! We’ll be playing a range of music from swing to Latin to rock to funk. The freshmen, sophomore, and junior band members will combine to create the 2011 JHS Graduation Band (which is a sneak peak into next year’s Symphonic Band!) They will be preparing several pieces for pre-ceremony music and then will perform the one of the most recognizable pieces of music, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, otherwise know as “that graduation song.” 2011 – 2012 Band calendars have already been e-mailed home and handed out in class. Please let Ms. Lane know if you haven’t received one. Our first football game is before school, meaning that returning band members will come to school beforehand to check out instruments and rehearse pep band for that first game. Please refer to the calendar for details. – Submitted by Mariko Lane This time of year, we find ourselves winding UP. . .by the last day of school, we collapse, exhausted, as we watch other teachers lock up their tidy rooms and head off into the summer! The band and choir completed their year of "formal" concerts May 25 with terrific performances of crowd-pleasing music - from Star Wars to Bohemian Rhapsody! The band did their second annual fundraiser at SPUD FISH AND CHIPS June 1st, and played tune tag with Kamiakin's Jazz Band at Kirkland's annexation ceremony Friday evening, June 3. The Juanita Learning Community Orchestra program had their dual concerts Wednesday, June 1, concluding their year showcasing the progress of 4th graders through our seniors from September till now. All in attendance were treated to beautiful music, wrought from the most expressive of instruments (besides the voice, of course!) - strings! Thursday, the choir students will be hosting a department fundraiser - featuring programming of their choosing, with invitations for all choir, band, and orchestra members to participate. It'll be Thursday, June 9, at 7 pm, in the JHS cafeteria (light and fun! not formal and stuffy)! If you'd like to send a special birthday greeting - please ask Ms. Pischke about our $5 singing birthday greeting! The choir will sing a 4-pt harmony birthday greeting to your favorite person (by phone). Ask Ms. Pischke for more details! The band and choir will both be performing for Juanita's graduation on June 14, then we continue expanding the music horizons of our sophomore and junior string players, band members, and singers through the remainder of our extended calendar year! Thank you so much for your support of the music program at Juanita High School. We are very fortunate to have the support of parents and administrators alike!
